Pumpkin Life Cycle Project – Lesson Plans

[ad_1]

Lots of teachers use this time of year to talk about the plant life cycle relative to the growth of pumpkins, but why not take it even further and explore how pumpkins (and other plants) decay?

Rot is kind of creepy but also a totally natural part of life and something you can explore in a classroom environment. This one uses the story Pumpkin Jack, which talks about the pumpkin decaying and turning into a new plant in the spring, but you can do this without the book of course.

This is a great way to teach kids to observe, and you can keep it going (with some soil in the bottom) until the new plant emerges in the spring if you like.
