The Golden Snitch first makes an appearance in the Harry Potter films when Harry learns how to play Quidditch in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Harry is a natural-born Seeker, and the Snitch in turn becomes an integral part of Harry’s story right up to the end, when he opens it to retrieve the Resurrection Stone hidden inside in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.
While the Snitch was created digitally for the films, great care was taken by designers to ensure that the Snitch itself would function properly. Many different designs were considered, and the final form featured a hollow ball and retractable wings that gently rolled up inside. “In theory,” says production designer Stuart Craig, “the wings would retract into the grooves on the sphere so that it reverts back to just being a ball.”

- US H-8 / 5 mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE
14 sts and 20 rows = 4 in. / 10 cm in single crochet.
Gauge is not critical for this pattern, but the yarn weight and hook size used will affect the finished measurements
NOTES
- Chains do not count as a stitch throughout pattern.
- To change colors during a sc, complete the last yarn over of the stitch in the new color, and use the new color to draw through last 2 loops of the st. To change colors during a bobble, ch 1 in new color after drawing through 6 loops and completing the bobble.
- To minimize carrying yarn throughout the pattern, use small balls of yarn for the white and gold portions of each Snitch. While crocheting the Snitch, carry the gray yarn by crocheting over the strand, and pick up the strand when you switch back to gray. To improve the appearance of carried yarn, crochet over the yarn on the right side (the side with the bobbles sticking out) and drop carried yarn in front of your work on the wrong side. Then, when working the next row on the right side, crochet over the dropped yarn.
SPECIAL TERM
bobble: With C, *yarn over, insert hook into st and pull up a loop. Yarn over and draw through 2 loops; repeat from * 4 more times. You should have 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and draw through all remaining loops. With A, ch 1.

Row 157: Ch 1, reverse sc around entire perimeter of blanket, working 1 st into each st, 1 st into each corner, and 1 st into even spaces when working along the sides of the blanket; sl st to first reverse sc of row when complete. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in all ends.
Optional: With C and pom-pom maker, create 4 pom-poms. Attach 1 pom-pom securely to each corner of the blanket.
