Profumum Fiore d’Ambra Perfume Review

Profumum Roma Fiore d’Ambra Eau de Parfum is a heady dance of white florals and amber. It is a linear scent that started with stronger, dry, powdery white florals before marrying with lightly spiced amber. The amber slowly enveloped the white florals with an almost caramel-like sweetness (it did start to read caramel to me very much at then end), but the florals were always part of the fragrance, even when it was a true skin-scent. The notes are listed as “amber, opium flowers, [and] spices.”

It opened with dry, powdery white florals that wafted sweetly on an inhale–the smell of spring in the air–and lasted about five minutes before a lightly spiced amber whispered in the background, and the amber grew stronger, slowly but surely, over the next hour before becoming a real blend of the two in equal proportion. The amber was golden, sweet, and lightly spiced as a blanket over the powdery white florals through the next two hours.

It was a more linear scent, very much focused around white florals and amber for me, with the amber being just barely-spiced, more sweet and treacly with a caramel-sugar sweetness. By the fifth hour, it was primarily a skin-scent on me with little projection and the amber becoming sweeter and more pronounced, but the floral aspect was still clearly detectable.

Application

For testing, I used half of a 0.7ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise.

Longevity

It lasted for five hours until it was a skin-scent and about eight hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate with the sillage dropping faster than the projection within the first hour of wear.

Personal Thoughts

It was one of several recommended to me by a good friend when I wanted to get a better sense of amber as a note, and this, along with Ambra Aurea, were high on my want-to-try list. Fiore d’Ambra’s heady white florals are beautiful but for someone else. The amber shines better as a soliflore through Ambra Aurea for me, which is exactly to my tastes!
