MAC For My Next Trick, Say the Magic Word, Magic Charmer Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches

MAC For My Next Trick Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a deep pink with moderate, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had opaque color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly to my lips but pulled away and settled into some of my deeper lip lines, so it wasn’t as forgiving as other shades in the range.

The lipstick had a denser, slightly thicker feel, which may have accounted for the settling. It wore well for five hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

MAC Say the Magic Word Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a darker pink with subtle, cool undertones and a natural sheen with barely-there pearl. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a lightweight, more emollient consistency that was still slightly thin (though not clingy!). It stayed on well for four hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

MAC Magic Charmer Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a deep, brownish burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It wore down to more of a matte finish within an hour of wear. It had rich color payoff in a single layer, which adhered well to my lips, though it wasn’t the most forgiving of lip texture so it could have been less emphasizing of my lip lines.

The consistency was lightly creamy, dense without being thick or heavy to wear. It lasted well for five and a half hours and felt non-drying.
