ColourPop First Bite & Twice Shy Glossy Lip Stains Reviews & Swatches

First Bite

ColourPop First Bite Glossy Lip Stain ($8.00 for 0.21 oz.) is a medium, orange-coral with a glossy, cream finish. It looked more pink-coral and darker after a few minutes of wear as the underlying stain was redder and influenced the end result noticeably. The texture was lightweight, thin, and watery, which helped the product spread easily but made it more prone to separating and settling into my lip lines.

It “set” slightly to something less watery and thin, which ensured it was still comfortable but didn’t slide around during wear. It lasted well for five hours with a light stain that lingered for a couple of hours but wasn’t strong enough to power through a meal.

It’s supposed to have the “long-lasting powers of a lip stain” with the “shine of a gloss” paired with “medium to buildable coverage” that is “non-drying.” The initial texture was almost watery, overly spreadable (and the applicator often picked up more product than necessary, so take care during application) but dried down to a more satiny shine that was less glossy and more like a satin lipstick with some translucency.

The initial shine wore off within two hours, so it looked like a true satin finish–this was true of doing nothing or just taking a drink of a glass as it wasn’t transfer-resistant. The stain did not power through a meal and tended to leave a very strong ring around the edges of my lips as it wore away so quickly while eating. Left to its own devices, most shades wore around six hours with a faint stain left behind.

It had medium, buildable coverage but quickly built to more semi-opaque coverage without an official second layer (just going back and forth to get an even layer of product). A couple of shades were truer to medium and others were more semi-opaque from the first layer.

There didn’t seem to be any added fragrance nor taste while worn.

Twice Shy

ColourPop Twice Shy Glossy Lip Stain ($8.00 for 0.21 oz.) appeared as more of an orange-brown initially, but the underlying stain was pinky-red and came through very strongly once applied, so the end result was more of a medium-dark pink-coral. It had medium, buildable color payoff that adhered fairly evenly but settled a little bit into my deeper lip lines.

The texture was lightweight, spreadable, and more watery initially before developing a light tackiness and some thickness (but it was never heavy or truly thick). It wore well for five hours, left a moderate stain behind, and was non-drying.
